Faceting/Cutting service

    Sunstone Japan is pleased to offer cutting services for colored gemstones of all varieties. We have two in-house professional cutters with experience cutting natural gemstones including, but not limited to, Oregon sunstone, sapphire, topaz, quartz, garnet, tourmaline, and zircon. We can also cut synthetic gemstones. We use the most precise faceting machines in the world- the Ultra-Tec V5 and VL (made in the USA).

    You can expect to get an average of 25% return (yield) on a piece of clean rough when no calibration or specific shapes are required. 
Example: You submit a 2 g (10 ct) rough stone with no inclusions, pits, etc. for cutting. This will yield, on average, a 2.5 ct cut gemstone.

    Prior to beginning a job, we will ask you to mail your rough stones to us for examination and consultation. We will inform you of any potential issues so that you can make an informed decision. If you decide not to go through with the faceting, you will be billed a $20 consultation fee plus the cost of return shipping.

Pricing is as follows:

• Base cutting fee: $100/finished stone

            Type of stone: 6 to 9 Mohs hardness (moonstone to sapphire)

            Shapes: Round, oval, trillion, square, cushion, emerald, hexagon, octagon

            Sizes: 4 mm to 12 mm

• Add-ons

            - Fancy shape (other than those listed above): $25/stone

            - Calibration (cut to specified size): $20/stone

            - Soft stone (softer than 6 Mohs hardness): $50/stone

            - Large stone (13 mm to 20 mm): $50/stone

    Discounts and/or waivers of add-on fees may be offered for orders of multiple stones.
